Your Dad is correct: using Apple, OSX, in general is a different beast. It will take some time to get used to, but once you do, everything else is easy.

Why should you use an Apple (macbook)? For me, it is the synchronization of programs with hardware. For example, what I do with my photo in one program will be updated, changed and easily accessed with any other. I do not have to worry about multiple formats.
